MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (WHTC) – Lt. Governor Brian Calley will be releasing the final seven points of the plan to Clean UP Lansing Thursday afternoon.
Calley released the first three points of the 10-point plan on Tuesday when many thought his announcement would be an official run for Governor.
For one outgoing state lawmaker, the discussion over whether to make the Legislature a part-time institution is one he welcomes.
Calley added his voice on Tuesday to a growing number of mostly conservative politicians who are promoting a petition drive to put the matter before voters in the November, 2018 election. Fellow Republican Roger Victory, a term-limited House Rep from Hudsonville, wants to couple this with another matter that would also need voter approval to enact.
“I think it’s a good discussion we need to have to be quite honest. Can we get the job done in a more timely fashion but also could we look at this term limit. I’m sure that creates some loss of institutional knowledge and putting more power in the lobbyist hands, outside of the leglislative hands.”
Calley will be releasing the final seven points of the plan on Thursday, June 1st at 12:30 p.m. from the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Calley is attending the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference.
