HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Meet Up and Eat Up Summer Food Service Program provides children in Michigan free nutritious meals during long school vacations.
The program is available at locations throughout Ottawa County and will provide breakfast, lunch and/or snacks during the summer months.
Kristina Weighmink of the Ottawa County Health Department says the Meet up and Eat Up program is administered by the Michigan Department of Education and locally by Ottawa Food who coordinates the meet up sites.
“So during the school year many children receive free or reduced lunches and obviously then when school is out for the summer, those meals are no longer available. So at Meet Up and Eat Up sites throughout the county all children 18 years and younger can receive those meals at the sites. Several of the sites will provide activities so children have more social engagement and are encouraged to attend.”
Meet up sites are in Grand Haven, Coopersville, Hudsonville, Holland Township and in the city of Holland has 13 Meet Up and Eat Up sites.
A list of meet up times, dates and locations can be found here.
