WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC) – Fourteen people are injured following the collapse of a deck in Ottawa County.
The deck of the Weaver House at Pine Bend Park in West Olive partially collapsed around 7:00 P.M. Thursday evening. About 25 people were standing on it according to Ottawa County Sheriff Steve Kempker. Over 120 people were attending the event to thank donors for raising money for a new emergency room at North Ottawa Community Health System
Kempker says most of the injuries were bumps and bruises, with the most serious being a broken bone. He says several nurses and doctors were at the event and jumped right into emergency mode.
“It made a big difference to the people who were here. So kudos to the staff at North Ottawa for stepping right away.”
The Weaver House will remain closed for a structural inspection. The Weaver House was built in 1901, and is used as a venue for various events.
