GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Grand Haven State Park temporarily closed due Monday evening due to reports of a huge fight on the beach.
Around 7:00 p.m. Deputies from Grand Haven Department of Public Safety were called to the park after an altercation reportedly involving about 300 people erupted, prompting the evacuation and closing of the beach. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, and Norton Shores Police Department were called in to help and state park employees made the decision to close the park.
Eight to ten fights took place and there is no word yet if alcohol was a factor and what caused the fight. Those who were camping were allowed to stay and extra security will be on hand today at the park.
No injuries or damage to property was reported.
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed at Grand Haven State Park, with the exception of written permission of the park manager.
