HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A second parking deck will soon become a reality in the city of Holland.
Council members on Wednesday night unanimously approved an agreement with Geenen DeKock Property to transfer property and construct a parking structure that faces 9th Street between River and Pine Avenues. The three-level, 380-vehicle deck would be built next year at a cost of over 6.7 million dollars, with a separate Notice of Intent Resolution also approved in order to begin the process of issuing up to seven million dollars in bond to pay for construction and borrowing costs.
As part of the agreement with GDK, the city would transfer the current parking lot at that site to the developer after the first of the year to facilitate the construction of the ramp, with the city taking ownership of the structure upon completion of the project, which is expected by mid-summer. Nine years ago, the city built a 250-vehicle-plus, two-story parking deck on a narrow strip of land off of 7th Street between College and Columbia Avenues at a cost of around 3.5 million dollars.
