GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – After a string of power outages all across Michigan due to severe storms on Thursday night, a number of accidents have been reported to local authorities . Another accident added to list involves three Hudsonville residents in a two-vehicle injury crash that occurred on Friday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Jeff Steigenga, 19-year-old Katelynn Molenkamp was trying to proceed through the intersection of Port Sheldon St. and 40th Ave. at approximately 1 p.m. The traffic signal at the intersection was without power at the time of the incident and Molenkamp treated it as a 4-way stop. While trying to go through the intersection to go south on 40th Ave., Molenkamp was struck by 46-year-old Tammara Wolters, who believed she had a green light while travelling east on Port Sheldon St.
Sgt. Steigenga reported that Wolters’ 10-year-old son was in the backseat during the collision. The force of the crash caused Wolters’ vehicle to overturn and for the roof to cave in after hitting a pole. The child was pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by Georgetown Twp. and Blendon Twp. Fire and Rescue.
The child was transported to DeVos Children’s Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Both Wolters and Molenkamp received minor injuries during the incident but were treated at the scene.
