THERESA, NY (WHTC-AM/FM) – A New York State Police trooper is dead after responding to a domestic dispute in upstate New York.
Trooper Joel Davis was gunned down just after 9 p.m. last night while approaching the suspect’s house in Theresa, a rural community in Jefferson County. The suspected shooter, Justin Walters, is a 32-year-old U.S. Army soldier from Zeeland stationed at Fort Drum. He surrendered and then, police say, they found Walters’ wife, 27-year-old Nichole, dead at the home and another woman shot.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says the entire New York family grieves for Trooper Davis, a four-year veteran with a wife and three kids. Cuomo called his death another sad reminder of the risks law enforcement officers take to protect our communities.
