HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – After crashing a car on Holland’s Northside Tuesday afternoon, a wanted Holland man is in police custody.
The 32-year-old man has been on the run from authorities for several weeks. The fugitive has been involved in numerous felony crimes in both Ottawa and Allegan Counties and had multiple felony warrants out for his arrest. The felony charges include Malicious Destruction of Property, two different Flee and Elude charges, and a Felonious Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
Holland Police detectives issued the help of the Michigan State Police fugitive team to locate the subject, and were finally able to catch up with him at Meijer on Riley St. The suspect was reportedly involved in a Retail Fraud case at the store, but shortly after fled from an Ottawa County Sheriff Deputy.
The man got into a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex and was seen driving recklessly southbound on 120th Ave. Officers converged onto the area and the fugitive crashed head-on with another vehicle while in the center lane trying to escape. The incident occurred between James St. and Lakewood Blvd.
The suspect and the driver of the other vehicle were both take to Holland Hospital. He was then transferred to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where Holland Police officers have him in custody. The incident is still being investigated by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s department.
