COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 29, 2022) – A potentially serious situation at Coopersville High School on Tuesday afternoon was “quickly diffused.”
That’s the term Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks used to describe how deputies were able to quickly resolve the matter. “Shortly before 2 PM, deputies responded after receiving a top that there was a subject on campus threatening self-harm with a firearm,” Sparks said in a department statement. “Shortly after arrival, deputies located the subject in the parking lot, and the investigation revealed that there was a firearm in the subject’s vehicle. The firearm was secured and nobody was injured during this incident. No threats were made to any students or staff, and the school never went into lockdown, due to the situation quickly being resolved.”
The unnamed student was turned over to parents and mental health professionals.
Sparks also used the incident to remind the public that information about safety concerns such as this can be reported to Ottawa County Silent Observer, the state’s OK2Say program, or a direct call to 911.
