WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Hemlock Crossings in West Olive was the place to be to see the total eclipse Monday.
Members of the Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association were on hand with a presentation and their telescopes. John Dillbeck is the President of the Association and was pleased with the turnout.
Three telescopes were set up for visitors to experience the event in the sky, for the kid’s it was a first.
“The sun looks white or like an orange in the sky” was heard often.
Hundreds waited patiently to look through professional telescopes in addition to using their own eclipse glasses to catch the eclipse in the sky. There were even those with cereal boxes and the old school method of the 1970’s eclipse viewing. At times it was cloudy, but the skies would clear up just enough for a peak.
The staff at Hemlock Crossings helped with making eclipse glasses and boxes and were also pleased with the turnout.
The Shoreline Amateur Astronomical Association will meet again at sunset at Hemlock Crossings on Saturday, August 26 for public viewing and their next club meeting will be held West Ottawa Planetarium on September 14th at 7:00 p.m.
