SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – International Aid in Spring Lake is a Christian relief ministry that is shipping supplies to Texas in the wake of hurricane Harvey.
They distribute life-saving medicines, hygiene products, nutritional supplements and reconditioned medical equipment to hundreds of ministries and humanitarian organizations in areas of greatest need.
Brian Anderson President and CEO tells WHTC News that hygiene kits are what is needed most right now as more and more people become displaced. Right now they have 13 pallets of hygiene and cleaning supplies that they have pre-staged in Alabama and another 30 pallets in Spring Lake that will be shipped to their partner in the San Antonia area and then distributed.
A hygiene kit packing event will take place this Thursday.
“It really is the basic items. Toothpaste, toothbrush, wash cloth, comb, soap and shampoo all is one gallon ziplock bags. We also put that bag inside a backpactype sling bag so people have that to put other personal items in.”
Area businesses and school donate many of the personal hygiene items throughout the year.
If you’d like to volunteer to help pack the kits just show up at International Aid in Spring Lake either from 10-12 p.m. or from 1-3 p.m on Thursday, August 31.
Anderson says financial support is the best way to help as it gives them the flexibility to do what is needed, where it’s needed. Trucking costs to get items to Texas as well as fuel costs add up. When highways are closed the logistical cost go up dramatically.
