ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Several incidents have occurred where counterfeit $20 bills have been passed in Zeeland and throughout Ottawa County.
According to the Zeeland Police Department’s Facebook Post, the fake bills feel real, but have the word “copy” on them. They are being passed around at gas stations, restaurants, stores and garage sales. Some people are passing them along without even knowing they are fake.
The Department is asking that you check your money. If you work as a clerk somewhere be extra cautious and check the currency you receive before accepting it. If you are selling items on your own be extra cautious and double check. If you do come in contact with one contact your local law enforcement agency.
The U.S. Secret Service is aware that these are floating around and are investigating these incidents.
