HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – This Summer the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division responded to two drownings. Two too many.
Sheriff Steve Kempker says last Summer the numbers were much higher.
“So again you know, we thought Summer was wrapping up, but we looked at the weather forecast this weekend and I would anticipate that a lot of people will be out at area beaches. Out to get that last ride on the boat. If people are out there we just ask them to use extreme caution, common sense and again we hope to close out another successful Summer.”
Kempker says they are still working on the investigation of the 23-year-old Holland man Nathan Jon Marcus who drowned while on a Ski Doo near Tunnel Park last Sunday.
The autopsy performed at Holland Hospital revealed the preliminary cause of death appears to be accidental drowning, however additional lab tests are pending. The death does not appear to be suspicious
Temps will be in the upper 80’s to 90 through Monday. Kemper says they hope to close out Summer with no drownings.
