HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s National Family Meals Month and a local restaurant owner is adding drug prevention to the menu .
All 10 Brann’s Michigan restaurants, including the Holland location at 12234 James St., are teaming up with the Lakeshore Regional Entity to offer “An App for an App,” for the download of their TalkSooner App. Endorsed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, TalkSooner is a free, local app and website encourages parents to talk with youth ages 10 to 18 about the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol.
When a patron dines at Brann’s, they will get a complimentary appetizer (from selected options, and with minimum soft drink purchase) with proof of the downloaded, free TalkSooner app on their mobile device. The “App for an App” program extends to carry-out orders as well.
National research affirms the importance of regular family meals together in keeping teen drug use at bay*, with National Family Meals Month celebrated in September. Studies show that compared to teens who have frequent family dinners (five to seven per week), those who have infrequent family dinners (fewer than three per week) are almost four times likelier to use tobacco, more than twice as likely to use alcohol and marijuana, and less likely to perform well academically.
The promotion runs through October 1, 2017.
