HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It’s the people she works with that has had the most impact on WHTC’s Patty Vandenberg.
Today, October 17, Vandenberg celebrates 38 years with WHTC Radio. That is unprecedented in the radio business. Patti is an administrative assistant, receptionist, traffic scheduler of commercials and what we like to call “the gate keeper.” She’s the first person you come in contact with when you call or come to the WHTC studios in Holland.
You can hear Patty every weekday on WHTC with her segment “What’s Happening Around Town” Monday through Friday at 10:25 a.m.
Vandenberg who graduated from West Ottawa High School was born in Allegan and moved to Holland in 1969. She’s seen a lot of changes in the radio business in her 38 years.
“My primary job is to do the program log. When I first started doing traffic, I had three big books, three ring binders that were three inches thick and we had all the orders from our clients to place those commercials. I had to go through and do that all manually with carbon paper, type them in a typewriter and then if we had any late additions I’d have to write those down on the log”
Back then it was a tedious task, but now much easier with computers. It’s her love for the company Midwest Communications which owns WHTC and the Lakeshore’s 92.7 The Van that keeps her at her current post.
In her spare time, Vandenberg who is happily married, enjoys antiquing, tractor pulls and spending time with her family. WHTC congratulates Patty on 38 years and many more to come!
