FENVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The last bank in the city of Fennville is slated to close in December.
Residents and city officials are fighting to keep Chemical Bank open and Mayor Thomas Pantelleria told WOOD TV 8 he has filed a complaint with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. The complaint says the bank is violating the Community Reinvestment Act which encourages banks to invest in lower-income communities.
“All Mayor’s and Civic leaders of small towns, if you have a bank in your community, take a good look because you’re next.” says Pantelleria.
With more people using online banking, Pantelleria says the closures of bank branches is only going to get worse.
