LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One Holland entity earned a state honor on Thursday night, while a similar accolade eluded a Holland woman.
During the Governor’s Energy Excellence Award ceremony, the Holland Energy Fund won the Best Innovator honor for its program which offers low fixed-interest loans that homeowners can pay back through their electric bill to fund a number of energy-saving upgrades, such as new windows, lighting and insulation, along with replacing outdated and inefficient appliances, furnaces and water heaters.
However, Sandra Kiernan of Holland lost out in the Best Residential Project category. She had made good use of the many programs available through the Holland Community Energy Plan to fund replacement and renovation efforts in her “vintage home.” Kiernan had finished second in the Holland Energy Prize Biggest Loser Challenge while doubling a US Department of Energy Home Energy Score from four out of 10 to eight out of 10.
Created as part of an initiative begun five years ago devoted to energy, the Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards honor organizations and individuals statewide for their commitment to responsible energy production and consumption.
