GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 22-year-old Spring Lake man has set out on foot from his hometown of Spring Lake to the University of Michigan to meet Coach Jim Harbaugh.
Marlin Ingalls has a passion for football and he wants Harbaugh to know about it and would like to job shadow him for a day. Ingalls left Spring Lake on Sunday, October 23 and made it to Grand Rapids on foot taking State Road through Coopersville….he then hopped on railroad tracks and walked to Walker, MI. WHTC News caught up with him this morning.
“I feel the best way to actually get the knowledge and experience you need to be able to compete and coach at a high level at this point and time is for me to just kind of sit underneath him and see how he coaches the game.” Ingalls played high school football, attended Muskegon Community College and works at GNC Live Well.
He’s wearing reflective gear and staying at hotels in the evening. Ingalls hopes to be in Lansing by Monday evening and and make it to Ann Arbor by Wednesday or Thursday. Ingalls hopes his story will make it’s way to Ann Arbor and that Harbaugh will hear of his journey.
“I do have enough food, Two huge water bottles and I portion those. If I find myself low, I’ll stock up at a gas station. People have been pretty friendly.”
He’s documenting his journey on Facebook with #HIKE2HARBAUGH.
