HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – In what was a laid back moment after a training exercise with the Holland Department of Public Safety (HDPS) tactical team when an idea was born.
Many of the men on the team are “folically-challenged” as they like to say. In a Facebook post, the team says instead of whining about their lost youth, diminishing appearances and lives that once were, the team has decided to raise some money for a cause. 8 of the 15 men on the team are bald.
This tactical team has decided to abstain from shaving their shiny domes until December 1. In exchange for their pride they are raising money for and hoping others will join them in donating to the Safe Families program.
HDPS says Safe Families is an organization that provides temporary homes for families in crisis. This is not foster care. For example, if a mother finds herself addicted to prescription pills, Safe Families would provide temporary housing for her kids while she seeks treatment. The Safe Families program can also assist moms and/or dads dealing with depression, financial issues, chronic illness or a parent who’s serving jail time for domestic violence or some other crime. In short, these parents’ kids would live with volunteer families while mom and/or dad are getting their lives back on track.
Each of the men on the HDPS tactical team has kicked in $20 and as a penalty, anyone on the team who bows to the pressure and shave their head in the first 2 weeks will owe an additional $180. Anyone who makes it past 2 weeks, but not until December 1, will owe an additional $30.
You can support the Safe Families program which is part of Bethany Christian Services online.
