LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 22, 2022) – If you hear the countywide emergency sirens fire off on Wednesday around 1 PM, don’t be alarmed … but be prepared.
That’s the word from the Michigan State Police’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division as the agency will be firing off a voluntary, statewide tornado drill as part of the state’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, which is this week. The sirens are meant to have residents and business go over and practice plans for if or when a severe storm approaches.
According to the agency, the average lead time for tornadoes to develop is 10 to 15 minutes, which means people need to be ready to react quickly when a warning is issued.
