HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Across the state on Tuesday, voters will head to the polls for local elections.
In the city of Holland, voters will choose a new Mayor. Mayor Nancy DeBoer is running against Second Ward Councilman Jay Peters in what many are calling a tight race. There are Mayoral races in Grand Haven, Coopersville and Ferrysburg as well.
The West Michigan Airport Authority 10-year-millage renewal is up for vote in Holland, Park Township and Zeeland. A Fire Safety and School Bond Proposals will face Fennville voters. Saugatuck Township and Casco Township voters will vote on Road Maintenance millage renewals.
Earlier this year in Ottawa County, Hart’s Verity voting system was implemented. It is the first such upgrade in 13 years. It was part of a statewide overhaul of how voting is cast in Michigan. Hart’s Verity voting system was selected for purchase because it is secure, accurate and easy to use says County Clerk Justin Roebuck.
Voters at the precincts will continue to mark a paper ballot that appears largely the same as previous paper ballots. They will then insert their ballot into a new touch screen scanner and wait for the image of an American flag to appear, signifying that the ballot has been accepted.
The polls will be open on election day from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
