HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – In one the closest Holland mayoral races in recent memory, Holland Mayor Nancy DeBoer won in her first re-election bid by 126 votes.
DeBoer received 51% of the vote with 3,038 votes while challenger Jay Peters had 48.9 % of the vote with 2,902 votes.
DeBoer admits is definitely came down right to the wire.
“I’m just very grateful for the people that voted for me. I’m definately committed to work for the people who didn’t. That we can all work together because that’s what makes a great community and that’s really what Holland has been known for over the years. That we are people that come together to solve problems.”
It’s the first election in 13 years where new voting equipment was used in Ottawa County. Hart’s Verity voting system was selected for purchase because it is secure, accurate and easy to use. Results were in by 8:30 p.m.
Peters will remain on Holland’s City Council as Second Ward Councilman.
