HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Now that a highly-contested election campaign is over, can Nancy DeBoer and Jay Peters still play nice on the Holland City Council?
DeBoer says that “we’re elected to get along” after defeating the Second Ward Councilman by 126 votes to successfully earn reelection as the Tulip City’s top elected official yesterday. “I will definately been committed to work with Jay as we tackle issues together,” the Mayor said following her victory last night. “I’m hoping that he will be able to do that as well. I really think that we want to go forward ‘with malice toward none and charity toward all.’”
The two, who had been publicly cordial during the campaign, will join their Council colleagues for the bi-weekly work-study session in Holland City Hall this evening, with a special business meeting slated to formally approve the appointment of Allegan County Commissioner Jim Storey to the newly-created Holland Civic Center Place Board, replacing Holland Area Visitors Bureau Executive Director Sally Laukitis, who has begged off serving on that panel due to numerous professional and personal commitments.
During the work-study session, council will huddle with Storey and other Holland BPW Board members to discuss the latest developments in the utility’s Downtown Expanded Fiber Project, as well as discuss the venerable municipal greenhouse off of Central Avenue that the Commons of Evergreen wants to acquire for future expansion but has an historic designation currently attached to it, preventing any development plans.
Tonight’s meeting and work-study session begins at 5:30 PM.
