HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office holds Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events classes for churches, clergy and businesses.
Classes are also available for citizens. Sheriff Steve Kempker says with the recent incident in Texas, his office is receiving interest from local churches as well as residents.
“We’re getting the residents, but were getting the churches too. Believe it or not, some churches this area already have security teams. Some are armed and some are not armed, but they are looking at the guidelines. The Response to Active Shooter is more for the citizen . Watch our website and we’ll get those up. We are going to move forward with that because of the overwhelming requests and all the positive response we’ve had from all the people.”
Kempker says they hope to have a Response to Active Shooter classes for citizens before the first of the year and are in the process of scheduling classes for area churches and clergy.
He says to watch their website for more details.
The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course was developed by ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training) and provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event.
