HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Holland Department of Public Safety tactical team (HDPS) is in the midst of a fundraiser called “Comb-overs for Charity”
More than half the members of the team are follically challenged and decided to put their losing their hair to good use. The team has accepted a challenge to not shave their shiny domes until December 1, 2017. In exchange they are asking for donations to Safe Families For Children. Safe Families is an organization that provides temporary homes for families in crisis.
Captain Keith Mulder says not only has the challenge been fun, but it has raised awareness for the organization Safe Families for Children.
“The idea was that we just wanted to try to raise money for this organization Safe Families for Children and it kind of grew from there where people starting saying hey I’d like to donate to this too. So what started out as us just trying to raise some funds by challenging eachother, we’re gonna get into this and not shave for a certain period of time and let our hair grow out.”
The Safe Families program a program of Bethany Christian Services, can also assist moms and/or dads dealing with depression, financial issues, chronic illness or a parent who’s serving jail time for domestic violence or some other crime. In short, these parents’ kids would live with volunteer families while mom and/or dad are getting their lives back on track.
