HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As Final preparations are being made for the Holland Rescue Mission’s Great Thanksgiving Banquet, they are reaching out to the community at the last minute for dessert donations.
The Mission has found themselves short on desserts, so if you are able to donate a “family size” dessert such as a pie, you are asked to drop it off at Devos Field House in the back entrance by 5:00 p.m. This year the Mission is preparing to serve more guests than ever before by adding more tables and chairs for families to attend
Over 1,500 members of the community will celebrate Thanksgiving at Devos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College. This year the Mission is preparing to serve more guests than ever before by adding more tables and chairs for families to attend. Last year over 140 turkeys, 700 pounds of potatoes, 50 gallons of gravy were prepared for the annual event.
Rachel Neal Chief Development/Operations Officer for the mission says in the last ten years the event has grown.
“I think that’s really because we’ve taken the focus of this event of feeding those who are in our shelters and then immediate people close to our ministry who have a need. Really opened it up to the broader community to say you know if you’re alone on Thanksgiving and you don’t have the means maybe to provide a Thanksgiving meal for you and your family, come and join us. Come and be a part of this community celebration.”
It’s a hot homemade traditional Thanksgiving meal served by over 1,000 volunteers in the community. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. All are welcome.
