HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The Ottawa County Parks Department saved the toughest part of the Ottawa Beach renovation for last.
Nearly 12 years after beginning its effort to overhaul the northwestern shore of Lake Macatawa, the department presented its proposal for replacing the 80-boat slip Parkside Marina to the county board this past Tuesday. According to the department’s “communications specialist” Jessica VanGinhoven, the new marina would only have 46 boat slips, 26 for transients, 15 for seasonal use, and five moorings, with expansion of a public walkway, along with the installation of public restrooms, an accessible kayak launch and landscaped green space.
“What we’re able to do with a scaled down marina is clean up the area and make it available to the public. And make a little park there.
The county board will vote on the matter on December 12th, and a site plan must be approved by the Park Township board, along with the approval of a permit by the US Army Corps of Engineers before the new marina could become a reality.
