LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The state is apparently putting money where the Governor’s mouth is.
Mr. Snyder said in his state of the state address four years ago that he wanted to bolster funding for developing more skilled workers, as the demand for such staff far exceeded supply. Last week, the state’s Skilled Trades Training Fund announced 8.4 million dollars in awards for 2018, an increase of 56 percent from this current year. Among the 212 employers in Michigan receiving 2018 awards, 84 were first-time recipients, and while manufacturing firms were prominent, other entities in the healthcare, technology and construction fields will also share in the funding.
While an individual company-by-company breakdown wasn’t made available, West Michigan Works! officials disclosed on Monday that 71 of the 212 employers statewide were based in Allegan or Ottawa counties, receiving a total of around 2.8 million dollars.
