ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Shopping for the season and for a reason gets underway tonight in downtown Zeeland.
“Feel the Zeel of Giving” runs from 5:30 to 8 PM through Friday evening, and according to the city’s Events Coordinator Kerry Van Dorp, it’s “a way for the local, downtown businesses to differentiate themselves from the malls this holiday season … (with) the emphasis is on giving back to your community.”
It’s more than just shopping, though, according to Zeeland Mayor Kevin Klynstra. “We’ll have trolley rides, reindeer for the kids to look at and pet,” he told Ed Ver Schure on yesterday’s “WHTC Talk of the Town” program, “and, of course, Santa Claus will be downtown for the kids. You can get a picture with Santa for a two-dollar donation.”
All money raised goes to Hand2Hand, a ministry that works with local schools and churches to provide nutritious food for youngsters on weekends when government-sponsored meal programs in schools are not available. More information is at the Feel the Zeel page on Facebook.
