GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Efforts at improving literacy rates among elementary school students in the Tri-Cities has been bolstered.
The Ottawa Area Intermediate School District is the beneficary of a two-year, 145 thousand-dollar total grant from the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation for “world-class classroom libraries” in every K-4 classroom in the Grand Haven and Spring Lake public school districts. The money will go towards acquiring reading materials aligned to the interests of students attending those districts’ schools, allowing pupils immediate access to the most current and quality books.
The “World Class” program is being launched in conjunction with the Reading Now Network, what OAISD officials say is a collaborative partnership of school districts in 20 West Michigan counties aimed at improving literacy and student achievement across all grade levels.
