HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Motorists are advised to be courteous to other drivers on the road, but there are limits to such magnanimity, evidenced by a three-vehicle pileup on Holland’s North Side last evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Cal Keuning, 68-year-old Davey Greathouse of Holland was attempting to turn left from westbound Riley Street to Whitewood Avenue, a block away from the 128th Avenue intersection, just after 5 PM. An unnamed motorist had stopped in the left lane of eastbound Riley to allow Greathouse to turn, but 19-year-old Anthony Vongsay of Holland was in the right lane and apparently didn’t bother to follow that example, plowing into the Greathouse vehicle, who then careened into the vehicle of 39-year-old Noel Heredia-Alvarez of Holland, who was on Whitewood waiting at the stop sign for evening commute traffic to clear.
An unnamed 67-year-old passenger in the Greathouse vehicle had to be extricated by rescue workers, and she, along with Vongsay, were taken to Holland Hospital for treatment. The other drivers involved were not hurt.
The crash remains under investigation.
