GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 25-year-old Grand Haven area man was fighting for life overnight following a single-vehicle crash south of the Ottawa County seat.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Eric Westveer, Justin Carr was driving his car northbound on 144th Avenue near Buchanan Street just before 9 PM. “Mr. Carr crossed the center line and entered the ditch on the west side of the roadway,” Westveer explained. “He then struck an embankment, which caused the vehicle to go airborne, and then striking a tree.”
Carr was pinned in his vehicle and was pulled out by a bystander and a first responder before the car burst into flames. He was subsequently flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in critical condition.
Westveer added that alcohol was not a factor in the crash and believed that Carr was not buckled up at the time as the incident remains under investigation.
