SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Christmas may be a time of “peace on earth, good well towards men,” but don’t tell Pete Hoekstra that.
Dr. Rob Davidson, the Spring Lake Democrat who wants to end decades of Republican control of the Congressional seat that represents the Lakeshore, led the chorus over the weekend of those wanting Hoesktra to quit as the US Ambassador to the Netherlands even before presenting his credential to the Court at The Hague next month. This stems from remarks he made more than two years ago about the state of terrorism in the Netherlands: “There are cars being burned, there are politicians being burned, and yes, there are ‘no go zones’ in the Netherlands.”
When shown the video, Hoekstra claimed to a reporter that it was fake news, then apparently backtracked: “I didn’t call that fake news; I didn’t use the words today…I don’t think I did.”
In a tweet, Hoekstra said that “I made certain remarks in 2015 and regret the exchange during the Nieuwsuur interview. Please accept my apology.”
Davidson, along with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, are apparently not accepting any apology and are demanding that Hoekstra resign immediately, if not sooner.
