ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – Changes to the city of Zeeland’s policy of the sale and consumption of alcohol on public property was approved unanimously by the Zeeland City Council The Holland Sentinel reports.
The city has allowed a charity or nonprofit to pull a special license to serve alcohol since 2008 but now the city will also be allowed to come to city council and ask for the license in order to serve alcohol at some city events.
There is also another change with non-profits hosting an event with alcohol. They may now contract with a for profit business that has a liquor license to provide alcoholic beverages at the event.
Only three special licenses may be approved by the city manager per calendar year.
Special events are only permitted within the north and south city parking lots, Heritage Square and the splash pad park, Main Street between Elm and Church, Elm Street between Cherry and Washington Avenue and side streets between Cherry and Washington Streets.
