HAMILTON, MI (WHTC) – The funeral for the 15-year-old Hamilton-area boy killed in a sledding accident on Saturday will be held Friday in Holland.
Mason Dykstra, a 15-year-old freshman student at Hamilton High School was being pulled in a sled behind a vehicle by his 19-year-old brother when he hit a tree. According to Captain Chris Kuhn of the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, his older brother had been driving a sport utility vehicle with a sled attached to the rear of the vehicle via a rope.
The collision happened just before noon on 133rd Avenue near 53rd Street. Mason was conscious after the incident and complained of some pain, He was treated via EMS and transported via helicopter to GR. During the flight Mason’s condition suddenly worsened and he was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
Superintendent Dave Tebo says the Hamilton School District will be closed Friday. Friday’s service will be at 11 a.m. at Central Wesleyan Church in Holland.
