WASHINGTON, DC (WHTC) — Michigan Congressman Gary Peters is applauding Thursday’s Obama administration announcement of a 10-year, $4 billion proposal to develop and deploy automated vehicles.
Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced the proposal at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Thursday. The move is a “strong step forward that will help ensure America continues to lead the world in making vehicles that are smarter, safer and more efficient than ever before,” Peters said in a written statement emailed to the media.
Peters, a member of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, has strongly supported advanced vehicle technologies in the U.S. Senate, including a bipartisan effort with Colorado Republican Senator Cory Gardner to create the Senate Smart Transportation Caucus.
