ROBINSON TWP, MI (WHTC) – A suspected ice jam on the Grand River in Grand Haven is being looked at as a cause of the river rising to flood stage upstream in Robinson Township. A flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the township until further notice.
The river went above flood stage at 10 o’clock yesterday morning, and it rose an inch an hour throughout the day. The Grand River is expected to continue rising to near 14 feet by tomorrow morning, which will surround several homes with floodwaters.
Captain Bob Tease of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management says a lot will depend on the weather over the next few days. He says the warm up today will help break up some of the ice jams, but we are expecting colder temperatures Saturday night through Monday.
The Sheriff’s office says if residents along the river experience flooding issues they are requested to call their local jurisdiction to report it.
If there is an immediate threat to life safety they should call 911
