HOLLAND (WHTC) — State Representative Roger Victory told WHTC’s Juke Van Oss Monday he has an idea of what Gov. Snyder will discuss in tonight’s State of the State address. The governor’s speech sets the tone for upcoming legislation.
The Flint water crisis and Detroit Public School’s financial challenges are definite topics, Victory said, but he also hopes to hear about what he called “the smaller issues” — which aren’t that small.
“We’ve got to be dealing with those big issues but there’s a lot of other issues, like the unemployment agency and the overreach they had with fraud,” Victory said.
Going forward, Victory said, it’s imperative that the state deal with the chronic wasting disease attacking Michigan’s deer population and threatening the hunting season.
“I’m very concerned abou thte increase of outbreaks,” he said. I want to make sure we institute a solid policy to contan that because, yeah, like I said, a $2 billion industry could be at risk.”
As of Friday, state DNR officials have tested 4,285 deer since the disease was discovered and found five deer who had been infected.
