HOLLAND (WHTC) — The city of Holland’s Human Relations Commission honors residents with the annual Social Justice Awards tonight, including two charter members of a new non-profit, Lighthouse Immigration Advocates: Sarah Yore-Van Ooterhout and Don Martin.
Yore-Van Ooterhout is an attorney who founded Lighthouse to offer low-cost immigration legal services to people in the Holland area. Martin, the first openly-gay candidate for city council, is president of Lighthouse Immigration’s board of directors.
The ceremony is set for 7 p.m. today in Holland City Hall’s council chambers, following immediately by a reception.
The annual Social Justice Awards go to people who demonstrate the virtues of social justice by promoting equal opportunity and equal access for all citizens in areas of housing, education, employment, government and community relations, according to city documents.
