LANSING (WHTC) — Michigan’s Appropriations Committee on Wednesday put a $28 million supplemental appropriation at Gov. Rick SNYDER’s request.
The Governor called it a “first step” in helping Flint residents deal iwth the lead-tainted-water crisis. Rep. Roger Victory, who sits on the Appropriations committee, told Juke Van Oss this week the state has been spending money — but more is needed.
“The House and Senate both appropriated $6 million to get the Flint water system transfered back to the Detroit waters system,” Victory said, referring to a vote last fall. “However, you can’t unring the bell, because the damage was done to the water lines.”
With the cost of switching Flint’s system back to Detroit water, the total cost so far is $37 million.
Of the new appropriation $17 million will help educate the public and aid child and adolescent health centers. Other money will pay for bottled water and filters as well as replacing Flint schools’ faucets and fixtures.
