HOLLAND (WHTC) — Lloyd A. Ver Hage, 82, of Holland, died suddenly on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, in Scottsdale, AZ.
The Hudsonville native attended Calvin College, and graduated from University of Michigan with a business degree. After serving the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, he returned to Holland the the car business started by his father. For 53 years, Lloyd Ver Hage owned and operated Ver Hage Motors of Holland, collected classic cars. The 34 Chrysler-built vehicles showcased in the Mopar Museum on Seventh Street ranged from a 1929 Plymouth rumble seat coupe to a 2009 Chrysler convertible.
His Christian faith was deep; he was a former elder and a member of Pillar Church for over 50 years, he served on the Holland Christian School Board.
Lloyd was preceded in death by one son, Paul A. Ver Hage, in 1995. He is survived by his wife Bernice, of 61 years; children, Blaine and Lisa Ver Hage, Norm and Lynn Ver Hage, and Laurel and Ken Beukelman all of Holland; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Langerak of Marne; eight grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visitation is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 7) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Downtown Chapel, 29 E. 9th St.
Funeral and military services are set for 11 a.m. Monday (Feb. 8) at Pillar Church, 57 E. 10th St., with the Rev. Jonathan Brown and Rev. Michael De Vries officiating.
The family is asking that memorial contributions may be made to the Paul Ver Hage Scholarship Fund at Holland Christian School, Paul Ver Hage Memorial Health Fund c/o The Community Foundation of the Holland Area, or The Beukelman/Ver Hage Scholarship Fund for Missionary Students attending Calvin College.
