HOLLAND (WHTC) — The Ottawa County mental health millage appears to have passed, after nearly 77,500 voters cast ballots.
A few precincts have yet to be counted at the time this report was filed but as of late Tuesday, 45,963 ‘yes’ votes has been counted to 31,497 ‘no’ votes.
The millage allows the county to collect property taxes to help fund the community mental health department, which had to lay off 35 workers last year after a budget shortfall of more than $2 million.
The new tax, which will cost a homeowner with a house worth $100,000 about $30 per year, will add $3.2 million to county’s coffers through 2026.
