HOLLAND (WHTC) — Fog is partly to blame for two Tuesday morning injury crashes.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dean DeVries said a three-car crash at Fillmore and 72nd Avenue in Allendale happened at 7:30 a.m., when Hudsonville resident Austin Robert Engerson, 22, missed a stop sign. His car hit one driven by Garry Gras, 75, of Allendale with such force Gras was ejected from his vehicle and Engerson was pinned into his own.
Both men were taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth. Gras was not wearing his seatbelt; Engerson was.
Engerson’s car hit a third vehicle; that driver, Sarah Ann Zwyghuizen, 29, and her passenger, infant Evie Klunder, both of Allendale, were not hurt. The baby was in a car seat in the car’s back seat; Zwyghuizen was wearing her seatbelt.
The second crash happened just before 9:30 a.m., when Sparta resident Jeffrey Don Alkema, 56, of Sparta, attempted to turn from eastbound to westbound Chicago Drive, but pulled his tractor-trailer into the path of a car driven by Hudsonville resident Camareth Faith DeBoer, 24.
DeBoer was extricated from her car by Zeeland Township firefighters and taken by ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth.
