HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Hundreds of local residents will come together to swab their cheeks as part of a bone marrow donor drive organized by Delete Blood Cancer, with hopes to save the life of Holland native Shannon Schamback.
Shannon is a family nurse practitioner who has devoted years of her life to taking care of others, and is now suffering from acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Swabbing your cheek is all it takes to register as a potential donor. Approximately 70% of people suffering from blood-related illnesses must rely on donors outside their families to save their lives.
Event takes place Saturday, March 19, from 9-2 p.m. at Biggby Coffee at 660 Chicago Drive in Holland.
Delete Blood Cancer DKMS, part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eradicating blood cancer and other blood-related illnesses by inspiring as many people as possible to register as bone marrow donors – thereby providing patients with second chances at life.
