HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Ottawa County Department of Public Health and Ottawa County Parks want you to commit to getting fit.
An 8 week Step It Up Walking Challenge will kick off April 25, 2016. The challenge is to virtually walk from St. Ignace, over the Mackinac Bridge and all the way to Conner Bayou Park in Grand Haven. That’s 288 virtual miles that will start with weekly group walks at different county parks.
The group walks will be led by a Parks naturalists, who can answer questions about the parks and show participants new trails. There will also be fitness leaders from the Tri-Cities YMCA who will focus on additional ways to get your heart pumping while you walk.

Week 1: Tuesday, April 26, at 10:00 am at Kirk Park Week 2: Monday, May 2, at 6:00 pm at Upper Macatawa Natural Area Week 3: Wednesday, May 11, at 8:00 am at Rosy Mound Week 4: Monday, May 16, at 6:00 pm at Paw Paw Park (West) Week 5 (2 walks offered): Tuesday, May 24, at 8:00 am at Grand River Park Saturday, May 28, at 10:00 am at Hager Park Week 6: Thursday, June 2, at 6:00 pm at Hemlock Crossing Week 7: Tuesday, June 7, at 10:00 am at Eastmanville Farm Week 8: Thursday, June 16, at 5:30 pm at Connor Bayou
The program will conclude with a walk and a wrap up party at Connor Bayou County Park in Grand Haven on Thursday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m. Participants can expect food and prizes, as well as fishing instruction by volunteers with the non-profit Friends of Ottawa County Parks.
