ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – It’s a checkup that one Lakeshore community apparently needs to undertake.
During this evening’s scheduled business meeting, the Zeeland City Council is being asked to accept a proposal from Progressive AE to conduct a Transportation System Review at a cost of nearly 18 thousand dollars. City Manager Tim Klunder, in a memo that is attached to the meeting’s agenda packet, said that his office receives suggestions “on a fairly regular basis” from the public on recommended improvements at intersections and other traffic locations throughout the city. In pushing for these approvals, Klunder said that, “we believe we have reached a point where (outside transportation consulting) expertise would prove beneficial.” Progressive AE has been Zeeland’s retained traffic engineer in the past.
Klunder also wants Council to approve an amendment to the city’s Major Street Fund’s Traffic Services Activity with an increase of 11 grand, saying that the additional funding will be offset by an “anticipated increase in Act 51 Revenue” in the (current) Fiscal Year.”
Such a Transportation System Review, estimated Klunder, would take three to four months to complete.
