LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Karen McPhee, Governor Rick Snyder’s education advisor since March 2015, has left her position for personal reasons the Governor’s office confirmed to WHTC news in an email this morning.
McPhee was the former superintendent of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District and was appointed by Snyder to replace Craig Ruff at the end of the year in 2014. McPhee resigned effective last Friday.
Snyder spokeperson Ari Adler was vague when pressed for more details surrounding her resignation. Adler said, “Gov. Snyder appreciates Karen’s expertise in education and the important role she played in helping to formulate education policy in Michigan in her previous role as a superintendent and as the Governor’s education advisor.”
Adler added that Snyder is currently considering candidates for McPhee’s replacement. ” who will continue the vital work of making Michigan’s education system the best it can be in the 21st century and beyond.”
