HOLLAND (WHTC) — Two people have been arraigned in connection with the attempted robbery of the Holland Township Wesco on Thursday, April 7, 2016, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett.
Holland Township resident John Theodore DeVries III, 17, was arraigned on a felony charge of assault with intent to commit robbery in 58th District Court Friday. Police said he implied he had a gun during his botched attempt to rob the gas station.
His girlfriend, 17-year-old Zeeland Township resident Madeline Jewel Lane, stands charged with lying to a peace officer during a major felony investigation.
After the early-morning attempted robbery Thursday, deputies spotted a man resembling the suspect’s description walking with a woman near Beeline Road and James Street just before 8:30 a.m., Bennett said.
The two were taken in for questioning.
DeVries remains in Ottawa County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
