HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Hamilton woman was pinned inside of her vehicle after she crashed with a semi-truck on US 31 in Holland Township Wednesday morning.
Just before 9:30 a.m. Kaitlyn Balder, a 20-year-old woman from Hamilton, was following behind a semi-truck on northbound US 31 near Riley St said Sgt. David Vanderploeg of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department. The semi-truck was being driven by Jack Helder, 74, of Zeeland.
Helder stopped at a red traffic light at the intersection of US 31 and Riley St. with Balder behind him and as he was pulling forward at the sight of a green light, Balder struck the back of the trailer. Balder admitted to texting while driving and was not aware that she was about to overtake the semi.
As a result of the crash, Balder was pinned inside her red Chevy Equinox. She was extricated by the Holland Township Fire Department and was transported to Holland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
