HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Back in the 1980’s at Lakewood Elementary in Holland, parent volunteers taught students how to use computers and there were no cell phones. Those are just some of the memories being shared on Lakewood Elementary’s Facebook page as the school celebrates it’s 100th birthday.
The first Lakewood school opened in the fall of 1916 on its current site, with the original schoolhouse on land that was part of the Getz family farm. Since then, Lakewood has grown to become recognized as one of the best elementary schools in the state with its performance ranking bEtter than 98.8 percent of the elementary schools in Michigan in 2015, according to schooldigger.com
This Friday April 29, the school will celebrate its 100th birthday with an open house from 6-8 p.m. featuring cake, games and memories. If you have memories to share or would like to contribute for the 100th birthday party, contact Lakewood Elementary Office at (616) 786-1300 or email lwpto@westottawa.net.
